Deep within the ocean, danger and beauty live side by side. As an oyster is assailed by a parasite, it has two choices: to fight and die, or to cover this tiny invader with layer upon layer of protective coating—forming, over time, a pearl of great price. Likewise, deep within the human heart, danger and beauty live side by side. When attacked by others or besieged by crisis, we too can choose to form layers of beauty, dignity, and hope in the face of pain. And our women do just that! They are pearls of great price who have chosen to allow their suffering to be used for good in the lives of others.

This necklace was made for me personally by “Katie.” Always joyful, she started a business to employ both abused and at-risk women in her native land of Thailand. One day when I visited, she took 25 baroque pearls and wove these flowers wrapped in wire and then fastened their satin cord around my neck. Worn for years with pride, these pearls have been watered by tears of sorrow turned to joy. Now they are available to you! Wear them knowing they were crafted with love, hope, and joy in the face of deep sorrow. Wear them knowing they’ve witnessed the power of rescue and redemption!
